What is D.A.I.P.?
The D.A.I.P. is a non-profit agency that coordinates the Vermilion and Acadia Parish's response to domestic violence. In the program an individual is offered an alternative to violence in family life.
The criminal justice, legal, medical, mental health, and civil systems of Vermilion and Acadia Parishes have combined efforts to offer individuals the opportunity to understand and change violent behavior patterns. This is accomplished by the individual being responsible and accountable for the effects of violence in a relationship: trust, respect, and love having a place to grow.
D.A.I.P. has many benefits to the community, including the following:
- Decreases the burden on the court system.
- Decreases the need for incarceration.
- Increases the likelihood that offenders remain employed and viable contributing citizens of the community.
- Is not a punishment, but an opportunity for change for the whole community.
Goal:
To educate and to help end domestic violence.
FOcus:
To protect the victim, in developing a safe community-based response to battering. D.A.I.P. seeks to avoid further victimization of Men and Women by holding the assailant solely accountable for their use of violence.
Mission:
To develop, coordinate, and implement a community response system aimed at interrupting the cycle of domestic violence through education and by holding abusers accountable and providing safety to support victims.
